Well, it is election day across the province. Voters in more than 400 municipalities are set to pick their local representatives. The rise in homelessness across the province, one of the more pressing issues mayors and councilors will have to face. While homelessness in Grey Bruce has stabilized, the demand for affordable housing has skyrocketed. Active applications in Grey County Community Housing grew by 248% from 2020 through to late this year. Now keep in mind you need to bring ID with your address, which can include a valid Ontario driver's license, Ontario photo card, utility bill, credit card statement, property tax statement, or a signed lease or rental agreement. Now what is not accepted? Canadian passports, because they don't list your physical home address. while Ontario politicians return from their spring summer break. The last time they were in office? June 2nd, in the spring, over five months ago. Three new MPPs will enter after a trio of by-elections saw two PCs and a new Democrat added to Queen's Park. The spotlight is expected to focus on the college and universities minister under fire for the handling of Ontario student assistance program payouts. And expectations are rising that the Bank of Canada will indeed raise interest rates this week as it considers the effect of higher energy prices. While it seems a little crazy to hike the interest rate at the worst time with sky-high groceries and gas prices, They do it to stop us from spending or quote unquote to keep inflation in check.
