It's Friday, December 19th. Good morning. Welcome to the last weekend before Christmas. We've got flurries, a risk of snow squalls, really strong winds, and a cold wind chill feeling minus 17 this afternoon. The dollar 72.48 cents U.S. I'm Stacey Englehart. Well, today is also the last day of school before the holiday break. In winter, officially arrives Sunday morning, 10.03. Keep in mind, there are two weather alerts according to Environment Canada's special weather statement and a snow squall watch. Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, northern Grey County. The warning comes after overnight rain followed by strong winds and a rapidly dropping temperature will bring icy and slippery conditions. But also lake effect snow could pose a problem upwards of 10 to 20 centimeters and reduced visibility. Travel could be challenging. JD will keep you posted this morning. Gray Bruce OPP looking to ID the man accused of a break-in in Chatsworth. Last Wednesday at about 4 in the morning, police said a man broke into a home on side Rd. 6 near concession 12, caused damage and stole a quantity of underlay. Police have released a surveillance photo. Anybody with information is asked to contact them. South Bruce OPP say a person from Brockton facing assault charges after a family dispute. On Monday, just after 8.30, police were called to a home. They say the suspect ran behind the home and when confronted by officers, he was combative. The 34-year-old was charged with assaulting a peace officer and breaching recognizance. He's due in court next month. An Ontario man who spent two decades behind bars before his murder conviction was set aside said he's glad the prolonged legal battle is finally over. The Court of Appeal for Ontario quashed Timothy Reese's second-degree murder conviction after finding some evidence had not been properly disclosed, resulting in a miscarriage of justice. And while winter officially arrives on Sunday morning at 10.03, it's also considered the shortest day of the year or the darkest. But the good news is, after Sunday, brighter days are ahead. NHL last night, the Leafs were blanked by Washington 4-0. Montreal beat Chicago. Edmonton over Boston. Ottawa beat Pittsburgh. Calgary beat Seattle. Leafs in Nashville tomorrow at 7. OHL yesterday, Barry lost to Sudbury 4-1. Tonight, they'll be in Brampton. Also tonight, Owen Sound is in Kitchener. Games start at 7. NFL last night, Seattle beat the LA Rams 38-37 in overtime.
